It has been realized that, at the corporate planning level of the Forestry Commission, there is the need to create the appropriate capacity to ensure that the contribution of the biological resources of the country to national development reflects conspicuously in the national accounting system. This requires the expertise of resource economists to undertake the valuation of the biological resources in order to facilitate innovative financing mechanisms such as payment for ecosystem services. This will enable other sectors to appreciate the importance of these ecological services and thus incorporate biodiversity considerations into their respective sectoral planning.
