IMPLEMENTATION

After signing the Convention on Biological Diversity on 5^th June, 2002, Ghana confirmed her commitment by ratifying the Convention on 29^th August, 1994. Soon after the ratification, a "National Country Study" was undertaken in1995. In 2002 a National Biodiversity Committee (NBC) was established to lead Ghana in the implementation of the Convention. The NBC supervised the preparation of a "National Biodiversity Strategy" Document and is currently finalizing the "Action Plan Document" of the Strategy. 

The implementation of the Convention in Ghana involve the following :  

• Ratification of the Convention on Biological Diversity

• National Reports

• Legislations affecting Biodiversity conservation in Ghana

• Competent Authorities for implementation of the Convention

• Steering Committee for the implementation of the Convention.

the way forward

Ghana is currently seeking for funds to undertake a project which will review her "National Country Study Report"  and also prepare her National Reports. The project, will also review the "Strategy Document" and finalize the "Action Plan". It is hoped that this project will start in the early part of 2005.
