Ghana was the 12^th of the 157 countries which signed the Convention on Biological Diversity (in line with Art 33),during the Earth Summit, in June 1992.

Subsequently, she ratified the Convention on 29^th August,1994(in line with Art. 34 of the Convention). The Convention therefore came into force for Ghana 90 days after she deposited her Instrument of Ratification (in line with Art. 36) 

accession to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

Ghana acceded to the Cartegena Protocol on Biosafety on 30^th May, 2003 and the Protocol came into force on 11^th September, 2003.
