Reseource Reserve is generally large with much of the area in a more or less natural condition and where a proportion is under sustainable natural resource management and where such expliotation is seen as one of the main aims of the area.

Areas of variable size, which are managed for guaranteed conditions essential to the wellbeing of selected species for the sustained production of wildlife products (meat, timber, pasture, fruits, honey and other non-timber forest products) for cultural practices, tourism and trophy-hunting. Essentially, Resource Reserves are established to increase game productions as a source of protein. Resource Reserves in Ghana include the Shai Hills, Gbelle and Kalapa Resource Reserves.
