The forestry sector witnessed a lot of changes as a result of the implentation of the 1994 Forest and Wildlife Policy. However, illegal activities resulting in the rapid depletion of Ghana's forest resources still continues, and there are emerging global issues like the Voluntary Partnership Agreement(VPA) and Reducing Emmission from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) which have implications on the forestry sector and livelihoods. There was therefore the need to revise the 1994 Forest and Wildlife Policy to address the current relevant issues confronting the forestry sector and map out new strategies to address deforestation and degradation.
