It is hoped that discussions and recommendations at the seminar will assist in shaping policy directions that will power Ghana’s green economic growth and sustainable development.
The seminar has the global theme: “Climate Knowledge for Climate Action,” and it is under the patronage of HE John Agyekum Kufuor, UN Special Envoy on Climate Change. The event will be a call for action on environmental sustainability, which could open up new markets, create green jobs and explore opportunities for wealth creation for rural communities.
The occasion will also witness the inauguration of a new market-based initiative for climate change adaptation and nature conservation, named the “Biodiversity, Ecosystem and Natural Capital Investment (BENCI) Programme”. The five-year green investment programme will mobilize financial resources for the promotion of innovative indigenous green enterprises and biodiversity business in Ghana and the West African sub-region against the backdrop of the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity (2011-2020) and the post MDG sustainable development agenda.
