Expressing his commendation on Ghana signing the protocol, the Executive Secretary to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Ahmed Djoghlaf stated that the signature was another stride towards the apprehension of sustainable development as well as being closer to the early entry into force of the protocol.

The Nagoya Protocol will enter into force 90 days after ratification by 50 parties to the convention.

It is noted that support of the convention will create incentives to conserve biodiversity, sustainably use its components, and further augment the contribution of biodiversity to sustainable development and human welfare.
