The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) was held from June 3 through June 14, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Five major agreements on global environmental issues were signed. Two of these, the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Convention on Biological Diversity, were formal treaties whose provisions are binding on the parties. The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signature from June 3 through June 14, 1992, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ghana was the 12th of the 157 countries which signed the Convention during the the Earth Summit, Subsequently, she has since August 1994, ratified the Convention .
